New York - The book "Discovering Italians: Journeys to Roots in Italy," edited by Marina Gabrieli, Riccardo Giumelli, and Delfina Licata, will be presented on June 6th at the John Calandra Italian American Institute in New York. The event will feature discussions with Giuseppe Sommario (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart), Alessandro Crocco (President of the Comites of New York), Anthony Tamburri (Director of the Calandra Institute), Silvana Mangione (outgoing Vice Secretary of CGIE for English-speaking non-EU countries), and John Calvelli (Vice President of NIAF). This book explores the journeys of immigrants and their descendants to their places of origin, serving as a key driver for the revitalization of tourism in post-Covid-19 Italy. It provides valuable insights into the roots tourism phenomenon, its destinations, and the motivations of the travelers. The volume, published by Ruibbettino, is a passionate and interdisciplinary research endeavor based on comprehensive questionnaires administered in areas affected by Italian emigration. It serves as an indispensable guide for municipalities, Italian and foreign institutions, and tourism agencies, shedding light on the stories of the 30 million Italians and their 50 million descendants who have left Italy over the past 150 years. It emphasizes the significance of roots and the inseparability of the terms "departure, stay, and return" as highlighted by Vito Teti in the included interview.
