RIGA - Youth, university and environment are the fundamental topics behind the Week of the Italian Language in the World, which starts today in Latvia with a series of meetings and initiatives organized by the Embassy of Italy in Riga in collaboration with the Riga Technical University and in relationship with the 160th anniversary of the foundation of the prestigious university, which is celebrated during the week 10-16 October.
"Italian is the language of creativity and there is noone more creative than young people. With the Week of the Italian Language - which we wanted to anticipate, so as to correspond to the celebrations for the 160th anniversary of the Riga Technical University - we reflect on how our language is changing thanks to the energy of the new generations and how much this reflects the dynamism of Italy today” stated the Ambassador of Italy in Latvia, Alessandro Monti.
Among the scheduled appointments, a masterclass on young people and the fight against climate change, an in-depth study on the role of the new generations in the Italian cinema and a lectio magistralis by Professor Remo Morzenti Pellegrini (former rector of the University of Bergamo and today Vice President of the National School of the Administration) on young people and the knowledge society.
On October the 15th, instead, space will be left to the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini with the presentation at the Riga Film Festival of the first translation into Latvian of "Ragazzi di vita".
The Week of the Italian Language in the World reaches its twenty-second edition in 2022. It is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of University and Research and with the main partners in the promotion of Italian in the world, including Treccani, Accademia della Crusca. and Dante Alighieri Society.
During the week, the diplomatic-consular network and the Italian Cultural Institutes organizes events around the world to promote the Italian language and culture. The theme of this year's review "Italian and young people. I beg your pardon? I do not followo you" was selected through a competition open to students of the Italian schools abroad.
